Live an OMazing Life

Last week for the first time ever, I was interviewed by Patty Palmer of Deep Space Sparkle for her podcast "Art Made Easy"! You can think of her as the queen of art educators. I've been holding out mentioning it to anyone from fear of it falling through (but it happened!). IT'S ALL HAPPENING! AND it airs in a few weeks. ERMAGERD!

I've been following Patty since my student teaching days back in 2011 and she's been like a beacon of light. She helped me when I first started teaching and when I wanted to focus on my classroom management skills. Now, here she is helping me again. I LOVE how this is coming around full circle. Patty's motto is, "art made easy". She does this by creating lessons and made-for-you curriculum. I thought why reinvent the wheel, when I had someone like her to help me out AND reduce my stress? I'm so glad I did it because it worked like a charm! So I bet you're wondering, why the hell am I talking about all of this? Because Patty and I share similar goals. We both want to help teachers.

Teachers are one of the most underserved populations. They are also some of the most stressed out people I know. We are in desperate need of help. With increasing demands and class sizes, it's no wonder we're stressed. I've been in out of public schools since Kindergarten (both as a student and as a teacher). That's roughly 23 different classrooms all before I was the age of 28. Needless to say, I know my way around the classroom.

In High School, I watched in horror as my Algebra teacher had a meltdown before my eyes because she couldn't manage the class. I thought she was going to have a heart attack. My heart hurt for her. Screaming didn't help. Pleading didn't help. She ended up leaving and never came back. I often wonder what it would be like if teachers were better prepared to deal with the stresses of the job BEFORE they graduated. Would burnout be less likely? Would teacher retention rate increase? Would we have more engaged students? Or less discipline issues that escalated? Perhaps I'm biased, but I think so.

Like Patty, I saw the need and want to help. I want YOU to Live an OMazing Life! Which is why I'm offering this program at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Mindfulness is a practice that can improve all areas of your life (not just in the classroom). You'll get a chance to hear all about it when the episode airs later this Summer. Until then, post all your questions below; I'd love to hear from you! <3
